MICHAEL S. FREY, PARTNER
Michael Frey joined Grant, Genovese & Baratta, LLP in 2005 practicing in the firm’s civil defense and insurance coverage departments and becoming a partner in 2014. Michael began practicing law in 2001.
Michael has a diverse background of trial experience, from immediately representing numerous municipalities in complex constitutional litigation immediately out of law school to defending businesses and advising clients on complex multiparty insurance coverage issues.
This diverse background has helped Michael play an integral role in the litigation of a number of complex defense and insurance coverage cases which reached favorable resolution by dismissal or trial.
Michael has been selected as a Southern California Super Lawyer Rising Star in 2007 through 2014, a recognition received by only 2.5% of California’s active attorneys.

1-800-GETTHIN v. National Fire & Marine Insurance Co. (Orange County Superior Court Case No. 30-2011-00478472) – Obtained rescission of an insurance policy based on misrepresentations made in the application for insurance in a complex multi-million dollar high profile litigation.
SUA Insurance Company v. Paint Boy, Inc. (United States District Court Case No. CV 05-8867-RGK (VBKx)) – Obtained rescission of an insurance policy based on fraudulent responses allegedly provided by insurance broker.
Ronald Blais v. JLG Industries, Inc. (San Diego Superior Court Case No. GIC 879154) – Obtained a defense judgment in a claim against a business where Plaintiff claimed it negligently allowed him to use a forklift causing serious injuries.
Francisco Cortez v. State Farm General Insurance Company (Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board Case No. ANA 0397994) (upheld on appeal) – Obtained a defense judgment on a claim an insurance broker negligently failed to provide coverage.
Karen Sherlock v. Claudia Benvenuto (Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 331989) – Obtained a defense judgment for a homeowner in a complex property line dispute where neighboring land owner claimed trespass and alleged new agreed boundary.
Cavalier Sportswear, Inc. v. CastlePoint National Insurance Co. (Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 454684) (upheld on appeal) – Obtained a defense judgment on behalf of an insurer regarding a claim of stolen property out of the Port of Long Beach.
